Subject: Event Benefiting CHS Grad's Foundation

Hello. I got your email address from the
CHS Alumni site. My husband (Joey Larson, Class of 87)
and I are putting on a charity golf tournament and
party benefiting a foundation called "Driving Miss Darby".
The foundation was created by Darby Bissett Steadman,
CHS class of 87. The foundation supports breast cancer
research patients. Darby has stage four breast cancer
and will never be in remission. I was hoping you could
make an announcement on your site about our event and
forward the information to anyone who might be interested
in donating or participating. I am going to send you all
the information we have been sending out about our event,
including the RSVP and payment form. I know what an amazing
community the CHS grads make up and we really want as many
as possible to have the opportunity to participate in our event.
The event will be held on May 30, 2009 in North Tampa.
I can be reached at this email address or at (813) 245-7817.

Thanks,
Carrie Larson

The Driving for Driving Miss Darby Golf Tournament and Party

Dear Friends, Family, and Alumni,

We reach out to you today with an important mission –
to help us support CHS alum Darby Steadman, who created
a foundation to help breast cancer patients.

By now, many of you have read Darby’s story:
after receiving treatment for breast cancer in 2004,
she was told it was unlikely to spread. The chance of
recurrence was less than one percent.

In 2007, just three years later, the cancer returned,
attacking Darby’s lymph nodes, neck and vertebrae.
Uncertain of her prognosis, she courageously joined
an intense clinical trial out of Johns Hopkins in
Baltimore , Maryland . The trial’s goal - to develop a
vaccine that will someday prevent breast cancer.
During the trial, Darby met one woman who drove six
hours from her home in West Virginia . The woman stayed
in a hotel for over 10 nights during treatment before
returning home, incurring travel, lodging, and food expenses to
participate in the trial.

Like her friend, Darby also incurred many out of pocket
expenses. Expenses such as $7,000 in round trip flights
so her mother could be at every clinical trial to help
husband John care for their two children and drive Darby to
her appointments.

Participation in the trial was physically, emotionally and
financially draining for the entire family.

Darby's trial still has five openings. She wondered
how many other women wanted to join the trial but couldn't
afford it. The Driving for Miss Darby Foundation was created
with these women in mind. The foundation will provide assistance
to patients going through breast cancer trials. By offsetting
costs associated with these trials, patients can put their
focus where it's needed most - on health and recovery.

Join us Saturday, May 30, 2009 as we support Darby and her
foundation. We extend this invitation to anyone who wants
to defeat breast cancer. As Darby says, "Let's make strides
in creating a breast cancer vaccine by offering the innovative
therapy to EVERYONE!"
