1) I am interested in the genealogy of the SR area, as my ggggf was Charles Ingram Helms (b. 17 April 1823 Anson County, NC d. 1901 S.R. County FL), who was one of the early settlers in S. R. County - he came from Coffee Co. AL and settled in what was then the Bagdad area and his children had land and families scattered all around Milligan, Harold, Pace, etc. and some were over into Okaloosa County when that was formed. How can I contact others researching this line? Related families: Cox, Barrow and Brewer |
| Lisa Franklin | Layfield 05/18/07
Working on the family of George W Layfield and wife Sabina. They are found on the 1860 Division 2, Santa Rosa Co census (P. O. Milton) in 194/194 with Benjamin Hampton 55, Mary 23, Sabra 7 & James 2. George W is 25, Sabina is listed as Sebrina aged 22 with children Joseph 3 & George W 6 months. Sabra Hampton is my husband's 2Great-grandmother. Have the Layfields on the 1885 Florida census as well as the 1900 and 1910 census. George is deceased sometime between 15 Jul 1880 and 13 Jun 1900 (census dates). In 1910, Sabina is listed as 75. Children were Joseph, George W, Martha, John W, Wesley T, Mary E, Henry E & James W. This is 8 children and agrees with Sabina on both the 1900 and 1910 census. Would like to know where Sabina and George are buried and if it's possible to get their tombstone transcriptions. Would be in a cemetery somewhere around Milton probably. Would also like to make contact with any descendants of this couple. I'm thinking it likely that Sabina Layfield was a sister to Mary Hampton (from the 1880 census). Hoping to research on Sabina and the Layfields will help me to determine if this assumption is correct. All help much appreciated. Lisa lisafranklin2004@earthlink.net |
